What Changed After Go‑Live

Three Microsoft Dynamics projects, and the number that moved because of them.

Manufacturing · Disaster Recovery

A manufacturer back in production two days after losing its ERP

A storage failure destroyed the production database behind Dynamics NAV 2018. One unusable backup image survived and the original extension source code did not. We extracted the database by hand, rebuilt the missing application identity from import diagnostics, and stood the whole environment back up on new hardware.

2 daysFrom total loss to full production, zero data inconsistencies across all eight core modules

Food & Agriculture · ERP Integration

Negotiated trade pricing served live from the ERP, never re-keyed

A specialty produce distributor sells to trade customers on account-specific contracted rates, all held inside Dynamics NAV. We connected nopCommerce directly into NAV Sales and Receivables over SOAP, so the storefront holds no pricing logic of its own and asks the ERP on every request.

300,000Live price records served across 500 trade accounts, with no manual reconciliation

Furniture & Signage · Catalogue Sync

A multi-day spreadsheet cycle replaced by one action in Business Central

The item master was leaving Business Central through Configuration Packages and entering nopCommerce by hand. A custom AL extension now moves the catalogue, its attributes and every attribute value on demand, in configurable batches tuned to avoid both request-volume and payload-timeout failure.

297,117SKUs under automated sync, carrying 95 million attribute values

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What finance and operations leaders ask before starting a Business Central project with us.

What is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Business Central is Microsoft's cloud ERP for small and mid-sized organizations. It brings finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, warehouse, projects and service onto one platform, with a single set of ledger entries behind every transaction. Because it runs on Microsoft's cloud, it connects natively to Teams, Outlook, Excel, Power BI and Azure.

How long does a Business Central implementation take?

It depends on scope rather than company size. A single-entity finance and trade rollout on standard functionality is typically the fastest path. Multi-company, multi-currency, manufacturing or heavy integration work extends the timeline.

We give a firm range after the fit-gap analysis in step one, not before. Any partner quoting a duration without seeing your chart of accounts and process map is guessing.

Can we migrate from Dynamics NAV without losing our history?

Yes. We move opening balances, master data and the transaction history you need for reporting and audit. The scope of history is a decision we make with your finance team, because moving every year of detail is not always the right call.

Every migration is dry-run in a sandbox first, and reconciled against your existing trial balance before we touch production.

Does Business Central integrate with our eCommerce store?

Yes. We connect Business Central with nopCommerce, Shopify and WooCommerce so orders, customers, items, pricing and stock stay in sync. Integration is where we do most of our work, since nopStation has been building commerce platforms for 15 years.

What is the difference between Essentials and Premium?

Essentials covers finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, project management, warehousing and supply chain. Premium adds Service Management and Manufacturing on top. Team Members licences give read access plus light data entry for staff who are not working in the system all day.

Choosing between them is a scoping decision, and we cover it during consultation before you commit to a licence count.

Can Business Central handle multiple companies and currencies?

Yes. Business Central supports multiple legal entities, currencies and consolidation. Intercompany postings and consolidated reporting are configured during implementation, and dimensions let you slice results by entity, department, project or any other axis you need.

Do you build custom extensions, or only configure?

Both. We configure standard functionality first and only build where a genuine gap exists, because every customization is something you carry through future upgrades.

When custom code is needed we write AL extensions to AppSource standards. The base application is never modified, so your environment stays upgrade-safe.

What happens after go-live?

Step six of our process is ongoing. That covers 24/7 monitoring, environment health checks, defect resolution, and testing each Microsoft release wave against your configuration and extensions before it reaches your users.

How do you keep our data safe during the project?

Brain Station 23 is ISO 27001 certified for information security and CMMI Level 3 appraised for delivery process, and we work under GDPR obligations. Migrations run in isolated sandbox environments, and access to production data is controlled and logged.

Why choose nopStation for Business Central?

Most Business Central partners come from a pure finance background. We come from commerce engineering, with 15 years building eCommerce platforms and integrations. If your ERP has to talk to a storefront, a payment gateway or a logistics provider, that is the part most projects underestimate, and it is the part we have done most often.

Key Terms

The Business Central words you will hear in scoping

Worth knowing before the first workshop, so the conversation starts a level up.

General Posting Setup
The matrix pairing business and product posting groups that decides which G/L accounts a transaction hits.
Dimensions
Tags on entries such as department, project or region that let you report across the ledger without new accounts.
Item Ledger Entry
The quantity record behind every inventory movement, paired with Value Entries that carry the cost.
Costing method
FIFO, Average, Standard or Specific, set per item and hard to change later, so it is an early decision.
Role Center
The landing page a user sees, with cue tiles and lists arranged for their job rather than a generic home screen.
AL extension
Custom code that sits alongside the base application instead of altering it, which is what keeps you upgrade-safe.
Essentials vs Premium
Premium adds Service Management and Manufacturing to the Essentials scope. It is a licence and scope decision.
Release wave
Microsoft's twice-yearly update cycle. Your extensions and configuration are tested against each one before it lands.
Sandbox
A copy of your environment for testing migrations, upgrades and new configuration without touching live data.
